Our Board Of Directors

Our board of directors at Sister Cities of Durham consists of people who are from diverse backgrounds and skill sets, and are passionate about bringing about cultural exchange.

Members are nominated to serve 3 year terms.

City Committee Chairs are members of the Board.

These are our nominees for our Board of Directors.  The membership will vote on these 3 nominees at our Annual Meeting, Friday, October 18 at 5:30pm at Durham City Hall - please join us.  Susannah Ochala is currently a Board member and has agreed to be nominated to serve a 2nd, 3 year term.

Zenani Fogg: Zenani is a Durham native. Her professional background spans over a decade in public education, where she taught grades two through nine in North Carolina, Maryland, and the United Arab Emirates. She later transitioned into teacher support and leadership roles, and she is currently an education consultant, providing coaching and professional development to teachers and administrators. She lived overseas for six years, and visited over 20 countries.

Salma Rashid: Salma grew up with immigrant parents and has always been interested in learning about other cultures and societies. During her undergraduate and graduate studies, she had the opportunity to travel to South Africa, Oman, and Ghana, and this sparked an even greater interest in her to learn more about how cities work together to create cultural connections.   She works in local government and is a member our Arusha, Tanzania City Committee.

Katie Vanhoy: Katie is the Associate Director of the Duke Homestead and Tobacco Museum. She has served on the Kavala, Greece City Committee since 2018 and was part of SCD's initial delegation to Kavala in 2018 to partner with Kavala's Tobacco Museum.

At the Museum, Katie's responsibilities include working with the public for tours, including school groups, planning events and her skill set involves working effectively with social media. She assisted SCD with our first two Festival of Nations, both of which were held on site at the Museum. In addition, Katie helped the Kavala Committee host a successful reception and fundraiser at the Museum. Through these engagements, Katie is familiar with many aspects of SCD programs.
